WEBSITE WILL BE CHANGING OVER THIS WEEKEND. SORRY FOR ANY INTERRUPTIONS.

5 Days into the "No Sugar Challenge"

Time to pat yourself on the back and time to read below for some points of reclarification...your diet life may get a bit easier after reading below...

For clarification & simplicity sake, the NO SUGAR Challenge refers to the "Major Sugar Offenders" only and will NOT include foods with sugar in the middle of the ingredient list. Perhaps a good rule of thumb would be if sugar (in any form) is in the top 3 ingredients you should consider passing it by. (SILVER)

Although we are allowing foods with sugar in the ingredient list, this would still be a good opportunity to make some changes with these foods and choose healthier options. Take ketchup for example- many brands have high fructose corn syrup in them, however you can make a healthier choice and buy a natural brand made with sugar instead. Spaghetti sauce and peanut butter are examples of foods that almost always have sugar in them, but can bought without any sugar at all, if you check some natural/organic labels.

-If you are zoning, healthier carb options are found on the “best choices” list. If you happen to eat some on the unfavorable side, don’t lose sleep over it, just try to make the majority of your carbs from the best choice list.

If you want to take it a step farther in your challenge, then starches are not permitted due to the fact that when they break down, the body still looks at them as sugar. Essentially, the only permissible carbohydrates at this level are vegetables and fruit. (GOLD)

-For those of you I’ve spoken with who don’t eat any major sugar offenders and starches and this is already the norm for you, I encourage you to stay on track with what you are doing in being super strict and cutting out those few additional foods that you need help cutting out.

NO SUGAR CHALLENGE--- HIGHEST LEVEL-- (GOLD)

"Major Sugar Offenders"-- NOT Permitted-- soda, juice, hot chocolate, candy, cookies, cake etc.

Foods with sugar--Permitted-- peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, salad dressing, energy bars, etc.

Starches-- NOT Permitted-- bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, crackers, chips, popcorn

NO SUGAR CHALLENGE-- SECOND LEVEL-- (SILVER)

Major Sugar Offenders"-- NOT Permitted-- soda, juice, hot chocolate, candy, cookies, cake etc.

Foods with sugar--Permitted-- peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, salad dressing, energy bars, etc.

Starches--Permitted-- bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, crackers, chips, popcorn

These lists are general guidelines and you can see there are many things not listed, so my recommendation is this…if you think it’s a food you can do without or should cut back on….add it to your personal NOT permitted list for the duration of the challenge. Each person’s individual challenge may look a little different but we will ALL be cutting out the MAJOR SUGAR OFFENDERS. Hope this clears up some confusion, let me know if you have any other questions. Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you for the clarification. My sweet wife who has been trying to accommodate my new eating challenge will be relieved with the news. 5 days in and things are going great. I am going to be happy to get a spoonful of peanut butter every now and then. Keep on keeping on!

Costco's kirkland brand peanut butter is great! Two ingredients, peanuts and salt.

Too bad I can eat it on paleo! :-(
