The day I walked through the Apex doors, I was instantly hooked. Finally, the challenge I craved! Being an avid gym goer for the last 15+ years, to say I was bored is an understatement. And doing the same thing day after day expecting different results – insanity, right?
Crossfit redefines what it means to be fit. It’s more than just looking strong, it’s BEING strong. It’s using your body the way it was intended; to push, pull, squat, jump, run, crawl, thrust your way to the strength you are capable of. It not only builds muscle and lean bodies but courage and tenacity. The satisfaction that comes from reaching your limits – and then surpassing them? Unmatched.
My goal is to continue working on form, first and foremost. Then there’s keeping those darned knees OUT and BUTT BACK! Of course, there’s the tougher moves like overhead squats that continue to own me. And the muscle ups, the pinnacle of CF moves. We will all do at least one eventually, I believe that!
And then there’s the Apex trainers, who’s wisdom and passion is contagious! You not only lead by inspiration but by example. Your obvious love and devotion to the sport will only continue to bring you more successes. Thank you all for your leadership and congratulations on your 2 year. Here’s to many more!!
Wow I Dont even know where to start!! Crossfit to me really changed my viewpoint on being physically strong and in shape,, looking back on what I used to do just makes me say "what was I doing???". I remember saying to myself that I was gonna lift hard one day then go easy another,, well with crossfit there's no easy wods that's for sure! Crossfit really doesn't let you get to confident,, like I said to mr Wagner after the merry-go-round workout, "you think your all that then you do that workout!!". All in all, crossfit really has changed my view on exercising for the better,, some of this stuff I could have never imagined doing a year ago,, but thanks to crossfit i feel that I'm getting the most out of myself in workouts and in sports,, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon u guys got me hooked lol
I couldn't wait to feel strong again after having my two kids...I was on my way when Crossfit turned up at my kids gym way back at Montco Gym two years ago...but once I started with Apex I was hooked right away...now I feel like I am stronger than I ever was, certainly physically. But the mental toughness component and the commaradarie is at least as important to me as the physical strength improvements.
It is really challenging to stay on top of working out with life as it is. My goal is to stay with Apex and just make the regular workouts as consistently as I can...running and rowing are my next focuses. Thanks Keith, Mike, Josh and my favorite, Tanya. Love you all.
Wow what can I say! My wife had been going for at least a year, she would always tell me how awesome crossfit was and I would always bust her chops on it.(PS Thanks Jodie Lee Miller) She would always ask me when are you going to try it. So finally I went and I remember my first day like it was yesterday, its that feeling that you got through the workout, but that feeling is why we do it. Crossfit to me is a way of life and i don't know what i would do without it. Things to work on for me is all around getting better at crossfit and maybe try competing next yr. My thanks goes out to Josh, Tanya, Mike and Keith. Without you guys and your knowledge, your push and over all encouragement we could not do what we do at crossfit apex!!!! I think the envirnoment that you guys have greated is so great and we all enjoy working out and pushing each other to our limits. Congrats on 2years. I look forward to many more years training with you guys THANK YOU for all your encouragement!!!!!!!
Wow what to say when there is soooo much....APEX has introduced me to another level of fitness that I didn't even know existed, both physically and mentally. Last October I was ready to throw in the towel after overuse injuries and extreme burnout and gave up on my dream of running an ultra marathon that I trained so hard for. I was so tired and mentally drained that I didnt even think I wanted to compete anymore. But then I found Crossfit (Angels Singing) and it instantly brought back my love and passion. It defies definition of what it has added to my life (and now Brian's too =) I just did my first race of the season Sunday and placed a lot better than I had expected. I had leg turnover and late race strength that I have NEVER had before. I am so excited for this season and am running my first Ultra in July and can honestly say that had I not found the Crossfit community I would not be competing this season and quite possibly could have given up for good. Thank you SO much Tanya, Josh, Keith and Mike for doing everything that you do, and also all of the athletes for the motivation, courage and inspiration. Congrats on the 2 years, looking forward to many many more!
I think it's so interesting to hear everyone's story of where they were before Crossfit and how it's changed them. J
When I think back to my first Crossfit WOD 2 years ago, doing overhead squats with a stick(!), and being 30 lbs heavier and 4 clothing sizes bigger(!), it's crazy to think about how different things are now! I came to Apex representing the non-athletic crowd....I wasn't an athlete-not at all, or a gym-goer looking for the next level, no, I was the uncoordinated, unathletic, overweight, out-of-shape, "exercise-is-a-boring-waste-of-time-with-no-results" person. Amazingly, Crossfit turned out to be just what I needed and I can't imagine life without it now! It's been a hard, challenging journey over the past 2 years but also very rewarding. I spent those first few months in the park finishing last on nearly every WOD, my goal then was just trying to get through it and live. J Over the past few years I've accomplished many things that I thought I'd never ever be able to do--like double unders, or pull-ups, to name a few, but eventually, I got there, and now my goal for this year is to get muscle ups and handstand push ups-- two things I have yet to conquer. Thanks Tanya, Josh, Keith & Mike for never giving up on me and always being such so encouraging! Looking forward to another great year with my fellow Crossfit APEXers!!
Prior to joining Apex, I had been exercising at home to retain some form of relative fitness. As I told Josh on my first phone conversation with him, I was looking for something that would provide a greater sense of camaraderie than if I were to join a traditional gym. Plus, my brother-in-law in Seattle wouldn’t shut up about crossfit so I thought that I’d better go so at least I can tell him ‘I tried it now leave me alone’. I thought I was in reasonable shape but I was humbled after my first intro class. It took 100% of my willpower not to barf all over my car on the drive home,.. which included 35 mph cruise control because my legs were so shaky I didn’t trust them. During the initial workouts, I couldn’t do a pull-up or a ring dip and my muscle soreness recovery was consistently 3 or 4 days out. Eight months later, my pull-ups and ring dips require no bands. If I feel queasy after a workout nowadays, it’s because I chose to push myself, not that my body couldn’t perform. I’ve had to purchase new clothes because my old work pants and shirts looked silly with all of the folds where I’d tighten my belt. Purchasing clothes that say ‘sports fit’ or ‘trim’fit’ hasn’t happened since High School. New goals for this year include stringing double-unders together in an efficient manner and increasing weight used in the WoD’s until RX is achieved more regularly. Crossfit Apex has successfully delivered on my request for camaraderie and fitness. I know that at a moment’s notice, I can jump into any sport or activity and perform well. I always get the feeling that I didn’t just join a gym; but that I joined part of a larger, cultural fitness movement. Josh, Tanya, Mike, and Keith, thank you for your knowledge and support.
