Educate Others About Healthy Choices

Here is an interaction of one of our Apex clients and their check out clerk at the grocery store. This happens more often than you think. Know what you eat and try to make good choices it's a good example for your family and others around you. If you portray good habits they will definitely be observed by others.

Crazy and sad story…I went to the grocery store with Logan (he’s almost 4 years old) and we get to the cashier with a cart full of produce, veggies & fruits, and chicken and salmon fillets (tomorrow is day 11, whoo hoo). Nothing else…the cashier says to me “does he eat this stuff?” and I say “what vegetables and fruit?” She says “yeah and fish?”. I said “of course we live off of it”. So I told her about the cleanse and paleo diet.  She proceeds to tell me that she has 4 kids all under the age of 9, then proceeds to describe what they eat on a daily basis. My heart almost broke in half. I just thought that these kids are going to end up being overweight their whole life until they take control of their own destiny, if they ever take control of it. She couldn’t believe that a toddler could eat stuff that most adults don’t eat.  She didn’t even know the names to some of the veggies I had in my cart.  I told her to give them a try for herself. If she sets a good example for her kids, they are likely to take on her habits.  It just makes you realize even more how important health and nutrition is as well as being role modeling to our kids.  If I could have taken a picture of her face when I pulled up the register with my cart full of produce bags. It was a priceless!

Anyway, keep up the great work with cleansing and at Apex!

Thank you for sharing your story, Cindy! How absolutely true is it that our good habits will eventually be observed by others and hopefully, have a positive influence on them as well. Stories like yours are so thrilling to me! What might have seemed like a simple conversation at the grocery store could very well have planted a seed in that woman’s mind to make changes in her own life and, in turn, her children’s lives. That is what it’s all about!

I imagine that must be the same story for a majority of parents in today's society. It pains me to see the poor eating habits of kids, especially during school lunches. Our own government considers pizza a vegetable! I highly doubt a half cup of tomato paste has the same nutritional value of a serving of broccoli...

HBO just ran an awesome four part documentary called "The Weight of the Nation" that tackles the issues of the obesity epidemic. I definitely recommend that you check it out!

I felt compelled to speak to her because there were a several people in my life that have pushed to succeed in many ways over the past 2 years so I was just paying it forward. I hope that my little interaction points her in the right direction. Who knows maybe in a couple months from now, I could be doing a WOD next to her!

I will definitely check out that documentary. It sounds interesting.
