May was for more Muscle-ups...
(A message from Trainer Julia)

May is for muscle ups right?  Many of us set goals at the beginning of 2012.  One of mine was to hit a muscle up by the time I turned 40 years old, May 21, 2012.  To achieve that goal, I did a couple of things.  I asked my kids for rings for Christmas, installed them in my garage, and worked the rings a couple of times a week.  I watched videos, got tips from many of my fellow Apexers, and made trips with many of you to Montgomery County Gymnastics to do some focused gymnastics muscle up work.  I have made a lot of progress! but! ... I am not there yet.  I hit some bumps I didn't foresee (like my garage beams starting to tear), and some other unanticipated road blocks to my time.  Still there are things that I can control and I am looking at my goal again...let's put it at a muscle up by the time I hit my next half birthday, December 21, 2012, the winter solstice!   This time around, I will track my progress by measuring the ring height above my head and strive to continue to get higher. I will get there by working MU drills at least two times a week and include at least one WOD a week that includes a MU component.  I will video myself once a month to see how I'm coming along, and I will participate in the cleanse (yikes)...check out this video to see where I am today, May 30, 2012.

How are you doing with your goals?  For me it is exciting to see other athletes hit new PRs and try out new skills...like doing a wall handstand for the first time or getting your first pull up!  While I have not hit my MU yet, what has made me at least as happy is that a couple others have. Have you hit a personal milestone or evaluated your goals recently?  Post where you are with goals or milestones... let's see where we are Apex!

Julia, you rock girl! Rings in the garage shows your dedication that WILL pay off. I'm willing to bet $$ that you get a MU before 12/21. Keep up the good work!!!

You've got this Julia! It's always tough when you aren't able to reach a goal initially. However, it shows your true character when you are able to let it be in the past and you continue to move forward towards it. Keep up the hard work and whenever you want to go to MontCo let me know!

I'm still fighting to meet up my goal!

Julia,

Your MU will be much more rewarding with the amount of time, determination, and hard work you continue to put into it. Even though it may be frustrating at times, you have and will continue to make progress until you get it! Here's my inspirational quote :) "Strength does not come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming what you once thought you couldn't."
Keep working hard and you'll get it! I'll be rooting for you :) LaRynn

Nice, Julia! :) Have you thought about hanging them from a tree? (any trees big enough?) That kinda sucks a bit about your garage beams breaking. I love how well you laid out your goals, and how you will work to acheive them. I guess I should do the same. ;)
