From Coach Julia:
The beginning of the growing season here in Pennsylvania is underway and it's a great time to start thinking about where you are going to get
your fruits and vegetables this summer! Maybe you will purchase most of it... If you do, ask at your supermarket where the produce comes from. Nutrient value starts to decrease as soon as the fruit or vegetable is picked. If you purchase produce at local farmers markets, get to know your farmers! This is the best way to get to know their product. Some good questions are,

How do you handle pests and diseases?...even if the farm isn't certified organic, you might be surprised and impressed at some of the chemical free techniques farmers are using to treat problems
What seasonal produce will be available next week?
Do you grow all of the produce you sell at your own farm? If not, where does it come from?
For a listing of local markets and community supported agriculture organizations, visit locavore.org.
If you are going to grow some of your own fruits and vegetables, it's not to early to start planting greens and some root vegetables like radishes, carrots and onions. They can be planted outdoors, and some of them even in containers.
And, for something really exciting, try finding some great greens coming up now as well...mustard greens, stinging nettle, dandelion greens and Pennsylvania cress are all edible wild greens.
