While I don't see myself as much of a triathlon guy I love swimming, I'm so in!
Nice Chris! Looking forward to it.
Lou, I am a weak swimmer. Will there be a chance to 'scale' these wods somehow? I would love to get better and this sounds so fun. Thoughts?
Of course we can accommodate less experienced swimmers, Bekah.
I coach kids from 2 years old up to adult elite level triathletes so I should be able to make it work.
I intend to spend the first 30-40 minutes each Sunday doing technique based swimming instruction, hopefully to help everyone become more comfortable in the water.
I am confident I can help you improve.
Those drills will be followed by a swimming specific WOD (probably some combination of laps and body weight movements) that can be scaled to each person's specific skill level.
Come on out and we will see what we can do for ya!
Swim WODs = Crossfit dream come true; better than running or even rowing :) is it bad that this makes me want to avoid making any other Sunday plans for the rest of the summer? haha
All,
Since I was asked about it at Apex tonight, here's a clarification about the water shoe prerequisite listed in the Swimming WOD description.
The reason I suggested bringing water shoes is because I am guessing the Souderton Pool is going to frown upon us going from in the water to the grass (to do exercises) and then back into the pool. This would cause a real mess.
I anticipate the body weight movements we do i.e. burpees, walking lunges, dips, pushups etc. will have to be done on the concrete pool deck, which could result in some dangerous conditions for everyone's toes and feet.
Do you have to go out and buy water shoes just for this program. Of course NOT!
I am just saying there is the very definite possibility of doing walking lunges with wobbly legs supported by wet feet on a wet pool deck.
So either put something on your feet or plan on being extra careful about not hurting yourself:)
Lou
I would love to swim, but I'm not up for Sundays. Is there any possibility that a swimming WOD can be set up any other day?
Dan,
I know Sundays are tough for a lot of people. Sorry!
The reason Sundays were chosen was because the Souderton Pool offers open lap swimming from 12-1 on those days for $1.
Also, I am pretty much locked up every other day of the week through the end of the Summer.
Maybe, participation will be high and the workouts will go well enough to warrant another day during the week but that remains to be seen.
I will let you know if that option seems viable.
