I’ve decided I REALLY like Cinnamon Toast Crunch… I’m tempted to lick the picture on my computer screen… I’ve taken so much fish oil, I’m beginning to grow gills…
All kidding aside, after about the first week, I was able to settle in pretty easily. I’m lucky that Karen enjoys cooking (and she’s good at) so dinner after Crossfit is always GREAT.
I also agree with Shanna that it’s nice to have other recipe ideas and BBD Paleo Blog posts are worth checking out…With some luck, 25 days will go by quickly.
I am still in a pretty good running for silver with an occasional cheat of chocolate or whatnot. As it is, I try limiting my carbs to about 100-150 a day. That's not to be said I sit down with a calculator and tally the numbers, I just have a pretty good general awareness of where I'm at.
I never was much of a pasta person so giving that up is easy breezy. Only real processed carbs I eat is my morning toast which is still all natural/organic, whatever that really means anymore.
Love my nuts, greek yogurt, veggies and of course, MEAT. And wine. Though the husband reminds me miller lite only has 3 carbs... as he downs his third.
All in all, great challenge. Nice to not feel the bloated/full effect of too many refined sugars. I feel light on my feet!
I do not know Keith, but I have this mental picture of someone licking the screen, cracks me up.
The first week I went crazy. Not that I wanted to eat gobs and gobs of sugar, but EVERYTHING I looked at, even canned green beans, had sugar on the label. I was not sure that this would be possible. After the clarification that Tanya gave on the 15th I think my mind settled and all has been great. I eat mainly meat, veggies, and fruits. I have lost 9 lbs and am at record low of 163. I am 32 and have not weighed that since Jr High.
The challenge is great. I have had two cheat nights where I will eat the bun on a burger along with some chips. My wife makes fun of me when I do it saying, "Oh no, your body is going to treat that as sugar!!!" She likes what she sees though and I think that reallistically I could make this a lifestyle of eating.
WOD times have been good and I have set some new PR's. I say it a lot but Apex has great programming and my buddy and I have have done more of it lately. Life is good.
Glad to hear everything is going so well for everyone else!
I swear Chocolate Chip Cookies, Bronies, Potato Chips and all of the other goodies find a way to cross my path! Don't worry, I am still a Silver Card Carrier! I avoid them like turkish get-ups and burpees.
Down 8#'s! Bring on Linda
The first week was HORRIBLE! I had some second thoughts about going 50 days without sugar, but, just like the crossfit workouts, I tried to keep with it the best I could. Ive had to cheat a couple times with cereal. The hardest thing to lay off of is deffinantly yogurt and ice cream! I try to replace the ice cream I used to eat at night with crackers or something thats more healthy. Its such a pain when my mom and sister make cookies when im right sitting right there!! March please come quick!
Kristin and I are still going strong at silver. We're basically adjusted now and plan to keep this going well past the 50 days! Thanks for the challenge and congrats to everyone doing so well. Keep it up!
Awesome job everyone, its you guys that keep me going strong when I get tempeted. Im going to AC this weekend for my birthday which will sure to be a full on carnage of sugar and booze, so im going to tack on an extra week at the end of my 50 days to make up for it. Thanks again Dave for the links, ive been using them for almost every meal!
Sugar, no problem. I had a cupcake on my birthday, but other than that, zippo.
The no carb thing is tough. BUT I can honestly say that my 'starchy' carb intake has been cut to a quarter of what it used to be. What used to be toast for breakfast is now spinach. What used to be rice and/or pasta is now an extra serving of veggies.
But sometimes, circumstances have arisen where it has been difficult to avoid the occasional wrap or bun. Plus my rotten friends are always trying to sabotage me by bringing over cheesesteaks, pizza, and stromboli. So while I get an A+ for sugar intake, I have to give myself a noble B for carbs and settle with a well-earned silver status.
I love it! Good work all :) It's great to hear so many people have stuck with it. I have to agree with Shanna, it totally helps having everyone together in this to help with the will power. Fisher, you're not the only one with the mental picture of Keith :) ;)
So far for me no sugar and no starch! I have had a total of 4 beers since the start, (3 of those 4thanks to fellow challenger Keith Bergman:)215) I've never gone this long without at least one of the following: pizza, steak sandwich roll or chips.
I have to say I think I've more than quadrupeled my nut intake. (it's not right how many nuts I eat...not good!) Anyway I've only had 2 real rough goes...one was a family pizza party...I held strong with my tuna salad until the last piece of lonely little pizza sat in the box. Then I took that sucker scraped off the crust...and devoured the cheese and mushrooms! It was so good! Then one night I made tacos for dinner, my shell...big pieces of lettuce...my sweetheart of a husband's shell...tostitos...with one rip of that bag he could tell I was drooling so what does he do, the loving supportive man that he is, he grabs my head and shoves it in the bag!!! I'm not gonna lie, I was tempted to lick a few chips while my head was in there but I resisted for fear that the lick would quickly turn to a nibble. That was the toughest dinner to get through, with him crunching away next to me the whole time....mmm tostitos! Can't wait to bring my cheat days back :)
It's gone so fast already, at this point I have to make it til the end or I'll be so mad at myself! 2 more rough events to get through coming up in the next 2 weeks, CRASH-B's in Boston and then Affiliate Fest in Miami. 2 weekends with crossfitters, should be easy right?!?
Dave, GREAT links! Thanks for sharing the good finds :)
Good to hear folks are still going strong. I'm up to day 37 with no sugar, processed carbs, or alcohol! I did start to crave a sweet treat so I made "butter pecan" ice cream... just chopped up a ripe banana, froze and then blended with walnuts. A bowl of creamy goodness.
