Nutrition Challenge: Week 1 Check-in

Well it's official we are 1 week under way in our Nutrition Challenge.
How's everyone holding up?

A slight recap on week 1... LaRynn's had a busy week so far nibbling on some no-no foods, hitting 50 GI Janes and then rounded off the week pressing almonds to MAKE her very own almond milk...(still gotta talk to you about this one!), Julia's had some big finds and some big losses...a big H-E-L-L yeah on the weight loss and lets all give a round of applause for this delic dessert pictured below (which didn't last more than an hour at my house) as well as the yummy coconut ice cream find (oh yeah add shopping for yummy coconut ice cream to LaRynn's list too!), Russ no booze Conklin has been cranking out the weekly bagpipe tunes with his band beer free these days...how's that going fella? Good for you! "Shanna can ya hear me?" Welcome aboard Shanna, Bus, Josh and any other November firsters, you've had plenty of time to clean out the pantries and fridges and now is GO time! Good luck! And we can't forget to mention our little "october blizzard" that left all you folks Power! Amen to you who were able to stay strong and not cheat even when you couldn't use your stove or fridge! Power outage came our way but committed good food eaters stayed strong and Sharon is still drinking that coffee Black!
You go girl!
Keep up the great work everyone! We are about a quarter of the way there...stay strong and let us know how you've been feeling.

Any thoughts of using a "Wiki Page" to store everyone's recipes? It's basically a free portal people can access to upload recipes. Super easy! Let me know!

That would be awesome! Nicole and I found a bunch of good recipes from sites like www.health-bent.com, http://www.elanaspantry.com/, http://everydaypaleo.com/, marksdailyapple.com,and a few others but we are slowly starting to hit a wall. Let us know how we can help!

That would be cool, Kacie. That way we didn't have to search all the comments for good recipes. :)

Thanks for the shout out Tanya! :)

Kacie,
You rocked that Wiki, Wicked Fast!

I'd consider myself a "wiki wizard!" Well, not really...anyhow, here's the page: http://apexrecipes.wikispaces.com/

All you have to do is create a username and password. In order to add a recipe to a section, click 'edit' and add the recipe.
If anyone has trouble, let me know!

Week 1 is going grrrreat! One good thing about no power is that there wasn't a whole lot to eat, so I lost a couple of pounds! LOL not the healthiest way to do it, I know...

Julia, I know what you mean about feeling hungry...I felt that way just today too...hoping it will wear off!

kacie-I joined the wiki page...can't wait to get some recipes and add some of my own! thanks for getting that started!

I am feeling some serious withdrawal action going on and am ready for this feeling great to kick in already. I only cut my caffeine in half so far and feel awful so I guess it's all the more reason to get off this crap altogether. Reading all your posts is very motivating to keep on it. The Wiki page is a great idea and I will upload some stuff tonight. Typing is exausting, I think I'm gonna go take a nap.

Tanya, you should be a writer as your second profession! Good stuff to read. Erik and I are sitting back and watching how this all goes down.We have changed our eating habits completely, but not quite ready to take on this challenge. I am inspired by all of you. Keep up the good work everyone:)

I made it through bagpipe practice and layovers in the airport without those tasty beverages. No sugar has been easier than I expected. I have also noticed that I have extra energy. Kudos on the Wiki page.....I will make sure to add to it.
Keep up the good work!

"if you're hungry and you know it clap your hands *clap* "clap* if you're hungry and you know it clap your hands....haha ok enough with the song (and maybe that just shows you I sing to my kid a little too much all day long!)

SO if you're hungry take a look at couple things, first are you wodding? What aren't you eating that you used to before or after a wod and have you replaced that food with anything? Also look at your carb protein fat ratios when you ARE eating. Are you eating enough fats to hold you over or are you pounding the raisins because they are sweet and you don't feel guilty that it's not icecream but then you are left 20 minutes later STARVING! Grab a hard boiled egg and a few almonds next time you reach for some raisins :) (and that was a reminder to myself!) Keep drinking the h2o....with colder weather here alot of times we neglect fluid and go right for food, you may be thirsty as well! Hope this helps! Keep up the great work everyone!

And on a personal note....not that I'm surprised but this stuff never ceases to amaze me...one week in without this crap and my eczema is fantastic! For those of you who know my hands and have asked if I have 3rd degree burn or some crazy disease, no it's just eczema and it's awful since I've had AJ. The only food I've never given up is eggs and part of me was considering trying to go without them....and then this challenge came around and honestly a little cream in the coffee and a little cheese every morning ON THE EGG....that doesn't really "count" as dairy in my diet does it??????? Well my friends it most certainly does!!!!! Be careful if you think ahh just a little isnt' too bad, if it's something your body doesn't like eventually it'll getcha!!!!! :) Keep on keeping on ya'll :)

Tanya- you make me laugh!! I love your little song!!

I'm still trying to get the carb/protein/fat proportions right...I need a personal chef to just make stuff for me and have it ready to eat.

I'm also nursing a cold, so food just doesn't have full flavor when congestion is involved... :-(

Ha! I was actually trying to not go the "substitute with another sweet" route. I actually think I didn't have enough carb/fat ratio. I upped my protien, but not my carbs and fats to replace the sugar.

I've been paying more attention the past couple of days and I haven't been as hungry.

I was actually thinking this morning that the only "sugar" I really miss are my latte's. And I'm not missing any gluten really except on my 5 guys burgers. (So, I just upped the patty count from 1 to 2 and it wasn't so bad.)

Apples and almond butter have played a huge part in helping me feel full longer.

Anyway... I told Jason that on Thanksgiving, I'm going double fisted on the starbucks lattes. LOL!

Day 7 and finally over the hump. FINALLY no more cravings. Have been overly tired so I took advantage of the needed break and have been catching up on some stretching while easing into the nutritional transition.

Does anyone use a wheat grass supplement and if so have you noticed any benefits?

Made the berry frickin good cobbler tonight! Thanks Julia!
